HISTORY OF OLIVE OIL

The Greek Goddess Athena planted the first olive tree, a tree that for centuries would give mankind a delicious juice that could be used to prepare food, heal wounds and diseases, and give light.

Ancient Athena, Goddess of Wisdom, was challenged by Poseidon to provide the most useful & divine gift. He produced the warhorse, but Athena won with her creation, the olive tree.

The people were so delighted with the olive that Zeus gave the city to Athena and named it after her. Athena is often shown with an olive branch, a symbol of peace and plenty.

Athena remains a symbol of civilisation, useful knowledge, noble reasoning, logic and wisdom. She reminds us that we can successfully use our intellect and creativity in pursuit of any goal we choose.
